Bulk Reception Unit

The REDLER Bulk Reception Unit (BRU) is an intake device based on the principle of a wide belt Apron Feeder.

The purpose of the BRU is to receive from road tipping vehicles (or front end loaders) and to convey and elevate the material for delivery into the process. This is achieved without recourse to ground excavations and expensive civil engineering. Normally a minimal height ramp (typically 750 mm) is all that is required.

The wide belt design allows the BRU to operate with a very wide range of materials, from grain to heavy ores and sludges, without risk of bridging and can be used as a buffer store as well as providing a regulated feed.

The BRU is constructed from rolled hollow sections and steel plate and is designed in a modular form such that units can be tailored to suit specific site requirements. Variations in length and inclination are easily accommodated.

The BRU is normally delivered to site completely assembled and tested ready for positioning on preprepared, local foundations and can be up and running within hours.

BRU
Bulk Reception Unit supplied to
Millennium Chemicals handling
Rutile Ore @ 50 tph

Description

Accepts most products delivered by lorry or moved by shovel, and forms a holding hopper and feeder in one. It is designed for above ground installation with minimal civil requirements, and can be supplied with an optional clad enclosure. A variable speed hydraulic drive and integrated control system permit adjustment of the discharge rate to suit lorry turn round requirements. Depending on product characteristics discharge capacities can be in excess of 500 tonnes per hour.

Technical Specification

General: Typical machine lengths are 7.5m, 10m, 12.5m, 15m, or 17.5 m and inclines of 10°, 15°, 20° or 25°.

Subject to product characteristics the rated holding capacity is approximately 30m3.

A minimum ramp height of 750 mm is required to bring the lorry tail over the feeder end.

Construction – Chassis:

The Reception Unit chassis is fabricated from 6 mm thick mild steel plate suitably stiffened with steel profile sections and support legs to ground level. The inlet section is protected with suitable reinforcements, and optimal loading is ensured with a product specific reception hopper. The product is contained on the conveyor belt with side panels and flexible adjustable skirting strips.

Feeder

Chain – The 152 mm pitched twin strands of conveying chain are made of high tensile steel with solid stud and bush connections and Æ89mm hardened rollers, which run on wear resistant manganese runners. Every second chain pitch has an attachment lug for mounting the belt support slats. The designed chain load safety factor is 10:1.

A central manganese faced skid rail runs the length of the unit to provide intermediate support for the belt support slats in the event of extreme overload conditions.

Belt – A 2600 mm wide Conveyor belt to suit the characteristics of product. A continuous profile is vulcanised around each edge of the Conveyor Belt to provide a contact surface for the adjustable product seal and to stiffen the belt edge.

The belt is securely fastened with corrosion resistant fixings onto belt support slats.

Drive and Tail Shafts – The drive shaft is made in high tensile steel and the tail shafts in mild steel. The drive shaft is mounted on pedestal type bearings and the tail shaft on bearing take-up units.

Drive – The variable speed hydraulic drive system comprises of an electric motor (IP55) with direct coupled gear type hydraulic pump unit and a shaft mounted ‘Hagglund’ hydraulic motor. The hydraulic circuit includes an anti-run back device and a variable pressure relief valve to protect the system from overloading.

Variable speed is provided by regulating the flow of hydraulic fluid at the hydraulic pump unit and thus matching the system flow to the required belt speed. The required belt speed is set by an adjustable flow valve during commissioning and is generally not re-set during operation.

Outlet Chute
The discharge chute with flanged outlet is fabricated from mild steel plate, which can also be lined as an option.

Head Access Platform Fabricated from profile steel sections with open mesh floor decking, double row handrailing with kick plates to all exposed edges and caged ladder access.
